Vintage & Used Instruments - Resonator Back Banjos (5-string)
GIBSON RB-GRANADA (1933)GIBSON RB-GRANADA (1933) VG-EC, THIS IS WADE MAINER'S ORIGINAL 5-STRING FLATHEAD GRANADA BANJO and has been played by him all over the nation, from North Carolina to New York to the White House (for FDR) and back (see archival photos). It is historically important as well because Wade's unique 2-finger style of playing (originally with fiddler brother J.E. Mainer and his Mountaineers) helped to set the stage for the later innovations of Earl Scruggs in the original bluegrass band with Bill Monroe. The Mainers' "Maple on the Hill" and "Take Me in a Lifeboat" were 1930's classics and best-selling records in their day. Wade is now 101 years old, has decided to stop performing regularly and is selling the banjo to benefit his family. It features curly maple neck and resonator, one piece flange, flathead tone ring, gold hardware, original neck, rim, and finish, all hardware has been replaced by Gibson in 1990 (done because Gibson did the same in the 1960's), modern 2-ring tuners, with HSC (SN:9530-5)
