GIBSON SUPER JUMBO 200 (1940) 27 Photos

We are thrilled to have this SJ-200, which is among rarest and finest of the prewar Gibson flattop guitars. Gibson's King of the Flattops, this is in excellent condition, from the family of the original owner (who is pictured in the photos section) this guitar has a long history. It was purchased and sent to eastern Montana, where the owner wooed his wife-to-be with it. During WWII the sheep-herder owner moved with his family to Seattle and became a marine electrician in the shipyards there. Between then and now it actually travelled to Rochester, Michigan and back to Seattle. Meanwhile, shortly after the family moved to Seattle they purchased a Gibson F-5 mandolin made in 1931 from a music store in St. Louis (that mandolin will also be offered here soon). In Excellent Condition, features include 17" lower bout, 25-5/8" scale, 1-3/4 nut width, 3-color sunburst spruce top, Brazilian rosewood sides and back with center strip, 9-ply w-b top binding, fancily engraved tortoise plastic pickguard with engraved border, open moustache bridge with individual saddles and 4 pearl ribbon inlays, 2-piece figured maple neck with center strip, white-b-w side-bound ebony fretboard with large pearl crown inlays, w-b-w-bound headstock with script Gibson and "pineapple" crown inlay, white-bordered truss rod cover, gold hardware including Grover Imperial tuners with stairstep buttons (tuners are replacements from a later era) and brackets at endpin and headstock for attaching the strap (original green braided strap is included). Only 96 prewar SJ-200 guitars were made, which makes them about as rare as a Martin D-45, and for some people more desirable.
