HARRY OAKES PRESENTATION MODEL (early 1890's) 17 Photos
VG-EC but could use some work for maximum playability (call for details). Oakes was a maker in Boston in the early 1890's and his 3 known banjos are in the style of Fairbanks (or Fairbanks & Cole) banjos of the time (this one is most reminiscent of Fairbanks). It is thought that he may have worked for either or both of those companies. Metal clad rim with ~11-3/4" skin head, 32 brackets, beaded ivory tailpiece stamped "PAT. 9.21.86", dowel stick stamped "H.E. OAKES / MAKER", dark-stained neck with carved heel and ebony backstrap.
