Features vignettes of a soup kitchen in Manhattan, striking workers in North Carolina, Zuni Indians in New Mexico offering advice on how the white man should deal with the Depression, more. Also includes government-made films and documentary accounts of poverty of the time, and the courage and inventiveness of workers who overcame these difficulties. 23-track CD includes news reports, comical satire, music from artists of the day such as Bessie Smith, Woody Guthrie, Roy Acuff, Eddie Cantor, others. 32-page booklet presents letters and written accounts of the struggles, as well as photographs from the period. DVD is b&w, 2 hrs.
