With his son Joachim (who adds percussion on many tracks), Cooder joined the cream of the island's musicians, including singer Ibrahim Ferrer, pianist Ruben Gonzalez, and others. The result is a document of a passionate, vibrant, and living music that survives outside the cultural corruption of the rest of the world.
