Rediscovered in the 1960s by the "folk boomers" and given a second career, Ashley had been musically dormant for decades; the folk fans that idolized him then had little idea that he had been an influential performer in the pre-war years. This long-awaited CD sets the record straight, collecting for the first time his incredible legacy of Depression-era old-time music, including clawhammer banjo solos, guitar and harmonica duets with Gwen Foster, sides with the Carolina Tarheels, and recordings with Byrd Moore and His Hot Shots -- all collected from 78's, with great notes by historian Joe Wilson.
