MUSIC FROM RANCHO DEVILLE: When Charles Sawtelle, "the Bluegrass Mystery", passed away in 1999, he left a huge void; he also left an unfinished solo record, which he trusted to Laurie Lewis to complete. Famed as the guitarist with the seminal western bluegrass heroes Hot Rize, Sawtelle was also a respected and saught-after producer, and it was in his Rancho DeVille studios that he recorded these tracks with his musical friends over the years. With help from many of those friends---David Grisman, Richard Greene, Tim O'Brien, Michael Doucet, Flaco Jimenez and many others---Lewis finished the daunting task of completing this, the first and only album fronted by this unique, acclaimed artist.
