RICHARD BROWN MESQUITE BANJOS "TEXAS TRAVELER" A-SCALE OPENBACK BANJO: Short scale, 10" rim, openback banjo handcrafted in Texas - 10" Mesquite block rim, 1/4" rolled brass tone ring, Renaissance head, 10" grooved tension hoop, 18 shoes and hooks. Select quarter sawn Mesquite neck, ~22 7/8" scale, 16 fret Texas Ebony fingerboard, side position markers at the 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, and 15th frets, Signature Scoop, RB Signature Bridge, Mesquite peg head cap inlayed with Texas Ebony star motif. Gotoh geared tuners. Intended to be tuned to A or D, but sounds nice in open G as well. Mesquite is an incredibly stable native Texas hardwood with good tonal qualities, nice coloration and attractive figuring. Texas Ebony, from the Mimosa family, is extremely dense (it sinks!) and incredibly hard and is perfect for fingerboards.
