Maverick singer/songwriter Steve Earle covers a multitude of styles from country to folk to rock to bluegrass and has gathered 2 Grammy awards and much popular acclaim throughout his musical journey. Now based in New York City, he discovered the Martin M-size via Matt Umanov several years ago. Umanov is the luthier who converted an old Martin archtop to a flattop for David Bromberg in the 60's laying the groundwork for the Martin M models. Earle worked with him to develop this model, one that "went with my clothes, you know, dressed down a bit" as he puts it, but with a very dressed-up tone. - M (0000) size body of rosewood and Italian Alpine spruce, scalloped braces, tortoise binding with 21-style black/white top trim, 18-style rosette, Delmar tortoise pickguard, rosewood bridge. Low profile neck (25.4" scale, 1 11/16" nut), rosewood fretboard with pearl "Doppler dot" position inlays, polished headplate with old-style decal, nickel Waverly butterbean tuning gears. Aging toner on top, bone nut & saddle (not compensated). 2-1/8" string spacing at bridge, black bridgepins with white dot. Inside label is signed by Earle and Umanov and numbered in sequence without total. MSP4100 light strings, blue thermoplastic hardshell case.
