A Fingerstyle Jazz Guitar Workshop w/ Bob McCloy

Learn how to play full solo fingerstyle guitar arrangements in blues, jazz/swing and bossa nova styles!

Saturday , March 10, 2007
01:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
workshop ($40.00)

In this workshop Bob will focus combining bass lines with chord accompaniment. He will also cover related topics including: Development of jazz bass lines over common chord changes (basic I-V patterns, chromatic leading tones and scale based walking lines in combination with chromatic movement). Building on that, he'll cover adding “comp” chords played with the bass lines, rhythmic “comp” patterns, and horn section style comping. By the end, you'll have the tools necessary to play guitar arrangements that integrate the bass lines, chord accompaniment, and melody for blues, jazz/swing and bossa nova styles. Bob will also cover chord substitutions, and use of “fake books.” Students should be comfortable with all open chords shapes, and have some familiarity with movable “barre” chords.

Tape recorders are welcome in the workshop, although all workshop material will be provided to students in the form of a course pack, which includes an instructional CD and music in both standard notation and tablature, in order to help students practice effectively at home.

Bob McCloy has been a popular instructor at Elderly Instruments (in all levels and styles of guitar, mandolin and fiddle) for nearly 30 years. His experience in teaching thousands of students helps them to become "musically self-sufficient" (which is one of Bob's primary goals for his students) while turning their work into play.

Here's a testimonial to Bob McCloy's teaching talent from satisfied guitar student Jim Bowes: "I find Bob to be an excellent teacher who takes time to deal with each student individually. He is adept at understanding what the student needs in order to be a better player."

In addition to his instructional abilities, Bob is also a talented professional performer, with years of concerts that add to his music experience. Visit www.robertmccloy.com for sound samples, workshop updates, testimonials from appreciative audiences and students, and more.
