More Mandolin Basics! A follow up of Alan Epstein's NOVICE MANDOLIN Workshop

A second session of Alan's Novice Mandolin Workshop--get both for $60.

Saturday , May 12, 2007
10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
workshop ($35.00)

Lest we forget: Alan Epstein's first Novice session (i.e., Novice Mandolin 1, held on April 7) is NOT a prerequisite for this second workshop, although students in this Novice Mandolin 2 class should be able to tune the mandolin, use a pick, know a major scale, and play first-position G, C, D and A chords.

Novice Mandolin 2, titled "More Mandolin Basics," is intended, first, for folks who have taken one of his Novice Mandolin workshops in the past, and second, also for beginning-level players who want to brush up on the fundamentals. In this class, Alan and the students will briefly review the introductory material taught in the first session, and then move into a more detailed hands-on focus on both right- and left-hand exercises, chords, playing tunes, and more. Handouts will be provided.

If you're interested in registering for this workshop--and also Alan's introductory novice session held on Saturday, April 7, don't forget the special "two-fer" savings of $10 when you sign up for both workshops. Also please note that space in these workshops is limited.

Alan has taught at prestigious music camps like Augusta Heritage in West Virginia. A year ago he conducted a successful "hands and picks on" mandolin workshop at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, sponsored by GLAMA (Great Lakes Acoustic Music Association). Credit for the photograph of Alan and some mandolin students goes to GLAMA.

Here's praise from some of Alan's past Novice Workshop students:

"Good tips on how to practice--excellent presentation.... This mandolin workshop was very well presented--clear and simple and interesting. I could have gone another hour." - Marcia Johnson

"Alan's workshop was an enjoyable introduction to mandolin basics, including sample exercises and chords.... It was informative and fun, exactly what I hoped for!" - Bob Blackman

"I like the idea there was no one who was out of beginning level showing off what they could do or asking upper level questions." - Beverly Tujague

"Knowledgeable teacher, friendly atmosphere...." - Joe Lentz
