This "second session" follow-up Novice Acoustic Guitar Workshop
is intended for beginning-level acoustic guitar students who know almost nothing about their instrument. If you're between the ages of 10 and 100 and know generally how to hold and tune the guitar, and maybe a couple of easy first-position chords but not much else, this workshop will benefit you greatly. If you're a total novice, register for both sessions and you'll get a $10 discount: 2 for $70.
NOTE: Bob McCloy's January 20 "Novice I" workshop is NOT a prerequisite for attending this follow-up class. But for this workshop, it will be beneficial to already know how to hold and tune the guitar, basic timing (counting), and hopefully how to form "D," "G" and "A7" chords, however slowly. {These things are presented in Bob's Novice I workshop.)
In this hands-on workshop, Bob will teach the chromatic scale, including movable two-note blues/rock chords; the Am and E chords; the Am-C transition; 4/4 alternating bass fingerpicking (with "Dust in the Wind"); the C-G transition, and more, including several songs in G in 3/4 and 4/4 time, plus an introduction to bass walks and reading TAB (tablature). (Wow. Don't let these topics scare you--it's easier to comprehend in person than it sounds, because Bob knows how to put it across.)
Tape recorders are welcome in the workshop, although all workshop material will be provided to students in the form of a course pack, which includes an instructional CD and music in both standard notation and tablature, in order to help students practice effectively at home.
Bob McCloy has been a popular instructor at Elderly Instruments (in all levels and styles of guitar, mandolin and fiddle) for nearly 30 years. His experience in teaching thousands of students helps them to become "musically self-sufficient" (which is one of Bob's primary goals for his students) while turning their work into play.
Here's a testimonial to Bob McCloy's teaching talent from satisfied guitar student Jim Bowes: "I find Bob to be an excellent teacher who takes time to deal with each student individually. He is adept at understanding what the student needs in order to be a better player."
In addition to his instructional abilities, Bob is also a talented professional performer, with years of concerts that add to his music experience. Visit www.robertmccloy.com for sound samples, workshop updates, testimonials from appreciative audiences and students, and more.
