Another FREE In-Store Concert by HONEST D & THE STEEL RESERVE

"They pride themselves on being entertainers as much as musicians."

Saturday , July 01, 2006
12:00 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
in-store performance (free)

To celebrate their new CD release, Oklahoma City Guarantee (while their 2004 Horseradish Rag and Other Songs of Music remains popular with fans of authentic country music), Honest D & The Steel Reserve are offering a FREE in-store concert at Elderly on Saturday, July 1.

Whether you're a trad-country afficianado or simply a music-lover who enjoys a good show with authentic (stage-stealing) garb and an historically-correct honky-tonk sound, you'll like mid-Michigan's favorite honky-tonk band. Honest D & The Steel Reserve play a wide range of classic country--Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Johnny Horton, George Jones--music from the early decades of the last century.

The band consists of Derek "Honest D" Smith on guitar and lead vocals, Danny Amori on drums, Joe Bakaitis on upright bass (Joe is perhaps the bassist-of-preference for most of mid-Michigan's bands), and Telemonster Jeremy Rapp on lead guitar (Jeremy composes many of the band's original numbers). Check 'em out at www.honestd.com.

The friendly foursome ("If you come out to a show, don't forget to say hey, we don't bite, and love meeting new folks") have been receiving rave reviews on www.garageband.com--and recently even got track-of-the-week. They're all over the map: at the Bridge Street Pub in Dimondale on May 13, at Mac's Bar in Lansing (the band's "hometown watering hole") on June 3 for their official CD- release party, and at Club Bart in Ferndale for a "hillbilly hoedown" on June 4.

On June 21, Honest D & The Steel Reserve is opening for classic country celebrity Wayne "The Train" Hancock at The Temple Club in Lansing's Old Town. On July 8, they're playing the free Gazebo Concert Series in Three Oaks; on August 25, you can see them at East Lansing's Fountain Square Concert Series; and on August 27 they'll strut their stuff at the Cooper's Glenn Music Festival at the Kalamazoo Nature Center.

A review of Horseradish Rag by music critic Chris Rietz for the Lansing State Journal also applies to the band's soon-to-be-released second CD--and to their gig in general: "The songs are emotional, direct, and rarely longer than three minutes, and their commitment to style is as uncompromising as the clothes they wear."
