Location: Elderly Instruments
in-store performance (free)

We're really fortunate that Boulder-based bluegrass band Hit & Run can find the time (tucked between a September 23 Bean Blossom Festival gig and a September 24 concert at The Ark with King Wilkie) to offer a free concert at Elderly. A look at Hit & Run's 2005 schedule is amazing--over 80 performances around the country in nine months: Swallow Hill Music Hall, Grand Targhee, Bozeman, Boulder Theater (for a Bob Dylan Tribute), the Orpheum Theater, the Prescott and High Sierra Festivals, the Loveland Concert Series, RockyGrass, Mount Hood, Berkeley's famed Freight & Salvage, San Diego's Summergrass, Dumplin' Valley, Nashville's Station Inn, Branson's Silver Dollar City....to name just a few.

This band of five young artists formed in 2002 and has wasted no time climbing to the top. They took first place in the 2002 RockyGrass Festival Band Contest, then took first place in the 2003 Telluride Festival Band Contest--the only band to date to have won both of these famous competitions. Then earlier this year they took first place in the 2005 SPBGMA International Band Championship. To top it off, Hit & Run is an Official Showcase invitee at the 2005 Annual International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Conference this October.

That about says it all. According to everything we read about Hit & Run, they're not only incredibly talented and consistently concerned with presenting top-notch bluegrass programs; they're also some of the nicest musicians to work with, according to those in the know.

"They have been able to harness a style of bluegrass that has both young 'kids' and 'older' folks lining up in the streets for their show, each and every time they play...." - Eric Pirritt, Colorado Talent Buyer for Fox Theater

"This group not only has a lot of talent, but has a real passion for their music and for getting it across to people." - Pete Wernick, Hot Rize, former president of IBMA, banjoist

"...Hit & Run, a Boulder-based band...even thought they're also youngsters....they blew everyone away....None of these kids can be older than twenty-four, yet they play with amazing depth and cleanness." - Jason Robinson & Craig Bowers, Kaffeine Buzz Concert Reviews

"It is easy to see why Hit & Run is moving up so quickly--their music is powerful and their professionalism is amazing for such a young band. They are a pleasure to work with and to listen to." - George Gertz, Sunlight Mountain Bluegrass Festival Event Producer.

"All it took for me was one good listen to Hit & Run to know they mean business. Tight arrangements, clear high harmonies and effortless energy abound in this band." - Sally Van Meter, Grammy-winning Dobro player.

"This really good Colorado group has the touch of genius on their souls, for they are a wonderfully combined and entwined five minds expelling their works as one. This act will 'stop' your show...." - Bob Everhart, Tradtiion Magazine
