Popular North Carolina author and guitar teacher Bruce Emery's "Popular Fingerstyle Hits and How to Play Them Better" Workshop will be offered at Elderly on Saturday, March 20, from 1-3 p.m.
This successful two-hour workshop, intended for intermediate- to advanced-level guitar players, includes a free spiral-bound handout, "Fingerstyle Hit Songs: Guitar Vocal Accompaniments in Tablature," which students will use during the workshop and take with them after the workshop.
Students will select the songs they'll work on from among the 15 fingerstyle hits [from "Blackbird," "Cat's in the Cradle" and "Dust in the Wind" to "Scarborough Fair, "Stairway to Heaven, "Tears in Heaven" and "Time in a Bottle"]. The majority of the tunes are arranged in the alternating bass style.
Bruces's successful approach to fingerstyle playing enables students to learn the tunes with "minimal trauma" and thus incorporate them fairly rapidly into their playing.
Tom Gannaway, Editor of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, wrote that Bruce Emery's teaching approach is a "must" for anyone who hungers for a "non-cryptic layman's terms approach" to playing fingerstyle guitar. "You really have a way of explaining this stuff in simple terms. This is a great thing," wrote Thomas McLachlan of Pittsburgh, PA.
Bruce's website offers page after page of praise for his teaching style--and humor. Check it out at www.skepticalguitarist.com. Bring your guitar and improve your fingerstyle playing while enjoying yourself. Audio or video recording devices are welcome.
