Lare Williams is back for a second in-store concert at Elderly, accompanied by his 5-piece Grand Rapids-area bluegrass band New Direction. The young lead singer and guitar/bass player is joined by Patty Williams on mandolin and vocals, two-time champion fiddler Peter Knupfer, banjoist and singer-songwriter Steve Boling, and guitarist Tony Zapolnik.
Lare has two CDs to his credit: Play What? which received recognition throughout the Midwest, and Grandpa John, with two tracks that have been released worldwide through "Prime Cuts of Bluegrass." The album has received airplay on more than 400 radio programs.
Lare's song "Old Guitar" hit the #1 spot on Indianapolis' WICR "Fields of Bluegrass" program after just three weeks on the air. The popular new song also reached the semi-final round of the Dallas Songwriters' Association National Competition, placing it in the "top 10 in the nation" for 2003.
The esteemed magazine Bluegrass Unlimited reviewed Lare's second CD, commenting that Grandpa John "blends bluegrass standards in with some impressive original material. Williams has a distinctive vocal style that imparts a unique perspective to the music." The magazine referred to Lare as "a young artist with unlimited potential."
Lare Williams and New Direction are also slated to play Saturday, March 27, at "Byron Goes Bluegrass," a festival to be held at the Van Singel Fine Arts Center on 84th Street in Byron Center. For further information on the band, visit www.larewilliams.com.
