The Chelsea House Orchestra is a new and exciting experience in Celtic Music. The Chelsea House Orchestra has over 30 young musicians performing on violins, violas, cellos, basses, guitars, flutes, oboes, bodhrans, djembes and harp. The large, rich sound of this High School Student group, performing traditional Celtic jigs and reels is unique.
The goal of the Chelsea House Orchestra is to expand the students musical experience through live performance. The Chelsea House Orchestra provides the students with unique performance experiences unavailable in the music program. "My primary goal (for the CHO) was to give as many students as possible an opportunity to be part of a performance group" states Jed Fritezemeier, founder and musical directory. CHO members must be members of the Chelsea High School Music program. New members are selected by audition.
CHO members are expected to memorize a repetoire of more than 40 pieces. Every summer there is a 3 day "CHO camp" where the members learn the new numbers for the next year. Practices are held weekly and performances average 2 to 3 a month. Members are encouraged to sing, dance and play new instruments. In short, CHO members are held to the same standards of a professional musicians group. The CHO students flourish in this environment.
The Chelsea House Orchestra is nonprofit program of the Chelsea Community Education program. The CHO is supported solely through performance fess, CD sales and sponsorships. All monies are used for equipment, workshops, recording session, and our performance tour to Ireland.
