Tim Britton Irish Wind Instrument WorkshopAn introduction to technique and style of Irish wind instruments: uilleann pipes, whistle and flute.
Tim Britton is among the foremost of a generation making innovative contributions to the Irish tradition. Tim has performed with Touchstone, Johnny Cunningham, Gerald Trimble, Mick Maloney and the Green Fields of America, among many others. He appears on more than two dozen recordings with the likes of banjo wizard Bela Fleck and multi-instrumentalist John McCutcheon, as well as a recording for the Smithsonian Institution. Patrick Balls "Storyteller" CD, for which Tim did most of the music, won the 1996 NAIRD award for best spoken word album. Besides performing in concert, Tim has played on National Public Radio, including A Prairie Home Companion and All Things Considered, among other radio and television appearances, and has composed and performed music for stage plays, radio drama, commercials and modern dance. In 1989, Tim was designated as a "master" by the Iowa Arts Council and nominated for a "Best of Philadelphia Music Award." He has taught at numerous workshops, school and community programs, organized piping conventions and authored a book on reed making. When not on tour, he can be found making pipes, or engineering and producing recordings in Fairfield Iowa. Tims workshop will include a hands-on discussion of basic technique, the technique and application of ornamentation, rhythm, style and approach to learning. This workshop is open to all players of uilleann pipes, whistle and flute. Bring your interest, instruments, tape recorder or video recorder and tapes.
