K.C. GrovesDetroit Music Award winner for Best Bluegrass Artist/Group
How can something be new and old at the same time' Well, for an answer maybe you should check out the music of K.C. Groves. For about five years now, Groves has been gracing the Michigan music scene with her traditional-sounding, new original songs, which have been referred to by local papers as "new traditionals." Groves plays a free, in-store performance at Elderly Instruments, (1100 N. Washington, Lansing) at 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 21. Groves incorporates all the honesty, humility, and simplicity of the Carter Family, while spinning her own tale into her carefully crafted original songs. At 28, her songs have the grace and maturity of someone twice her age. Groves recently won the Detroit Music Award for Best Bluegrass Artist/Group. This year Groves released her debut CD titled, "Can You Hear It." Co-produced with the late Charles Sawtelle (of Hot Rize fame), this twelve song recording features such well-known bluegrass artists as Laurie Lewis, Tim OBrien, and Peter Rowan. All the songs are original yet they maintain an air of timelessness. Familiar and easy to listen to, Groves music is like putting on a new pair of shoes that feel as comfortable as those old ones you just cant throw away.
