Solas
hot platter! THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN
-
With their 1996 debut album, Solas was hailed as the best Irish band in America, and they're still at the top of the heap. Although they can race through high-energy dance tunes with the best of them, they're a more versatile outfit than most; this new CD includes a Norwegian slow air, an original atmospheric piece called "Homeless," and a powerful coal miners' union song. This album also introduces their new lead singer, Deirdre Scanlon, who shines on the dramatic "Last of the Great Whales," "When My Love and I Parted," and two Gaelic songs. The biggest surprise is their version of Sarah McLachlan's hit "I Will Remember You" -- which was co-written by Solas founder and multi-instrumentalist Seamus Egan! To top things off, the enhanced CD includes a video of the band you can watch on a PC.
