hot platter! VIOLIN, SING THE BLUES FOR ME: AFRICAN-AMERICAN FIDDLERS 1926-49
All but lost to history and to contemporary music, the tradition of the black fiddler was once a very powerful one. Once a common instrument among black musicians, from the times of American slavery until the 1930s, the fiddle was eclipsed by the guitar and fell out of favor in popular music. Here are 24 tracks, mostly from the late '20s and early '30s, from the days when the violin was a driving force in popular music -- in blues, the old stringband tradition, and jug bands.
