Joseph Sobol
hot platter! CITTERNALIA
-
The cittern -- a long-necked relative of the mandolin, with five or six pairs of strings -- has found its way into the hands of many players of Celtic music, and none more capable than Joseph Sobol. The instrument's ringing tones, and Sobol's superb arrangements, are perfect for the jigs and reels, slow airs and O'Carolan tunes he plays on this lovely album. Sobol is joined by such pros as John Williams on button accordion and Laurence Nugent on flute, but as the album title suggests, the cittern is always up front. If you love Celtic music and want to sample something just a little different, try this one.
