The George Barnes Quartet
hot platter! DON'T GET AROUND MUCH ANYMORE
-
Radio performer, session ace, and all-around jazz guitar icon George Barnes was legendary as the epitome of grace, polish, sophistication, and, above all, taste -- the "Fred Astaire of guitarists." This live show from 1977 showcases this master of the jazz box in an ideal combination: a tight quartet, a small theater, an entralled audience, and a program of jazz standards. David Grisman's Acoustic Disc label shows an uncanny knack for turning up amazing "lost sessions" on tape, and this sparkling live show is literally Barnes' last recording, captured less than two months before his passing.
