DVD - FINGERPICKING GUITAR TECHNIQUES taught by Stefan Grossman
2-DVD set. Rev. Gary Davis used to tell his students that playing guitar was easy, that a piano player has only two hands but a guitarist has three! Our right hand thumb is one and plays the bass figures while our index finger is our second hand and plays the melody. Our third is our left hand which fingers chords. This produces a full fingerstyle sound with a rhythmic bass played against melodic lines; the alternating bass technique sometimes referred to as "bum-chick." Learn how to master the alternating bass style. Each tune is taught phrase by phrase and then played again slowly on a split-screen so that you can see what both hands are doing. With footage of Rev. Gary Davis, Lightnin' Hopkins, Merle Travis, Elizabeth Cotten, Doc Watson, more. Beginning/intermediate. 60 page tab/music booklet included. also included as a PDF file. 170 min.
