DVD - POWER PICKIN', VOL. 2: FIRST POSITION BACKUP FOR BLUEGRASS BANJO by John Lawless: Step-by-step instruction of the basic techniques and patterns used to play roll-style bluegrass banjo backup in the open, or first position. After teaching some simple patterns, John shows how to use the forward roll for a bluegrass sound. An essential element is the escape roll, which lets you maintain the roll over more than a measure, and then escape that pattern and lead into a new one. He also teaches the banjo/fiddle duet style. Two familiar songs are used to demonstrate how to "fill in the holes" when a singer pauses. Examples are shown fast & slow, most solo and with a band. Includes tab booklet. 2 hours.
