ALTAMONT: BLACK STRINGBAND MUSIC FROM THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS
It was once thought that white country music and black spirituals and blues had been separate since antiquity and had no common ancestor; recent scholarship indicates that was completely untrue -- and so does this record! There were black dance musicians, fiddlers and banjo players, and the stuff on this record is so good we can't believe it's never been issued before! Two small groups, recorded for the Library of Congress in 1942 and 1949.
