GIFTS OF THE BARD composed by Jim Dalton: For mandolin solo. Inspired by Irish mythological tales which relate the three skills a bard must possess, the work is structured in three movements that bear the names and character of these gifts: "Goltrai" (sorrowful music) which quotes an ancient Irish lament and uses an EBow, "Geantrai" (mirthful music) in the rhythm of a jig, and "Suantrai (sleep-inducing music) with harplike arpeggios and harmonics. The three movements are played without pause. Intermediate/advanced. Notation only. 7 pp.
